Personality Disorders

A Personality Disorder is a pattern of behaviors, thoughts and emotions that can cause distress and interfere with a person's quality of life.  This is something that is usually first noticed during the teenage years and early adulthood.  This pattern is often unchanging.  It often causes difficulties in a person's relationships.  People with Personality Disorders often experience distress and can have difficulty functioning in their day to day life.  Individuals with Personality Disorders often experience unsteadiness in the way they perceive themselves, others, and the world.  They often have difficulty reacting in ways that are expected by the culture and society in which they live. 

Treatments Available at White River Junction, VT VA

Individual Psychological Interventions - Individual therapy with a male or female clinician is available.  Often for successful treatment of a Personality Disorder, the individual needs to engage in long-term therapy.    Short-term therapy can often be helpful in addressing other stressors or issues a person with a Personality Disorder may have.

Couples or Family Therapy - Therapists are available to help couples and families.

Group Therapy - Many groups are available at the White River Junction VA.  There are open groups, which are available to all veterans and do not require a referral to attend.  There are also closed groups which require a referral to attend.

To receive services, please go to the Primary Mental Health Clinic (PMHC), our walk-in clinic located in Primary Care.
